Atom’s Weekly Digest - This Week In DeSci

Welcome to the first edition of Atom’s Weekly Digest. We will go through the latest developments across all of DeSci so make sure to subscribe to keep up to date with the innovations happening in the space every week.

This week was an exciting week for DeSci, the second ever bio IP NFT was launched, the ResearchHub reputation hackathon is underway, and everyone is gearing up for DeSci Denver.

HairDAO IP NFT Launch

HairDAO successfully launched the second ever Bio IP NFT to fund researcher Ralf Paus. IP NFTs are an innovation from Molecule used to incentivise the funding of academic research from DAOs. As part of the investment the DAO receive the IP rights to the outcome of the research represented as an NFT.

In the launch video below, HairDAO founders Andrew Bakst, Andrew Verbinnen and Benji Leibowitz from Molecule candidly discuss with Paus, the leading hair loss researcher with over 20k citations, the work he will undertake with this funding.

ResearchHub Reputation Hackathon

ResearchHubs reputation hackathon is underway. Reputation is an essential part of the academic economy and is key to obtaining funding. However, it is a broken system easily gamed through spurious citations and reproducibility left to the wayside in favor of producing “novel” results for more prestigious publications.

ResearchHub, which aims to become “Github for Science”, rewards positive contributions to science through their native coin. They have opened up to the community in order to crowdsource the formula for reputation. Keep an eye on their Twitter for fascinating guest talks leading up to the close of the hackathon on the 19th.

BitBoy Gets Into DeSci

BitBoy released a video this week about DeSci and actually produces some great content about decentralized science and its mission. Whatever you think about BitBoy, it is definitely a vote of confidence in the legitimacy of DeSci and will bring plenty of positive attention to the space.

PsyDAO Launches Sweat Points

PsyDAO launches sweat points to reward contributors. They are looking to fund and democratise early stage psychedelic research. If you are interested in contributing and receiving sweat points you can join their Discord and fill out their form.

Things are gearing up for DeSci Denver
